A look can burn with hellish fire
Be ice-like stare or love admire.
If a picture is a thousand words
And so many pictures that unfurled
Would take a hundred thousand lives
To live and view with perfect eyes
It still inadequate to show
A simple look, a face’s glow.
A universe with volumes heaving
A thousand lives to read the meaning
Could for certain, in no way fare
Against a look, not stare nor glare.
A knowing glace can say for sure
What the strong not dare endure.
Not bless nor curse from all the gods
Nor hellish fate true to all odds
Can ever ebb, not in the least
The scene of which mine own eyes feast.
What has granted a face this power?
Who has given sight this conquer?
The angels in their envy look
Their breath now taken lays forsook
A glance alone will captivate
Heart and mind, both simple, great.
If this lone glance, this single stare
Brings more meaning than write I dare
Comes to mind yet this one thought
How much more its Creator wrought?
